Region 9 Coaches “This Week at the Creek”

Our Board members & referee & coaching staffs have worked hard for months to launch the season, and we hope all teams had a fun first day last week. Weather & fires can wreak havoc with schedules and points so be patient with us. Here are some reminders:
- coaches & referees – please properly and legibly fill out your games cards - U08 coaches & referees - we do not officially keep standings in U08, but we do use those statistics in team balancing next year – please fill out and turn in your game cards as well.
At the end of the season in competitive divisions we form All-Star teams that continue to play for several more months. For information on the All-Star program and applying to be an All-Star coach, please check the website and apply at All-Stars Page.
AYSO National is working with Chivas USA on a Continuing Education Session with Coaches Jim Liston and Jimmy Conrad on September 24th right before the Chivas game against Toronto FC. The Coach Session will start at 4:00 PM and is two hours long. After the session, attendees are invited to join Chivas USA season ticket holders in a Town Meeting.
Liston will talk during the first half of the session about the following:
Warm up games that TEACH soccer concepts
Appropriate warm up activities for kids
Drills to improve your players athleticism
How to give FEEDBACK that makes kids feel successful
Conrad will take the second half of the session and talk about early development and how developing a child is more important than winning and how the volunteer coach can help with that.

Picture Day will be Saturday 9/24. Coaches or Team Managers should pick up the Picture Day packet for their team on Saturday, September 17th, at the Information Booth. More info is located at Picture Day Info 2011.
